Herbal Teas

Welcome to the rich and varied world of herbal tea. Also known as "tisanes," these are not true teas, as they are not made from the Camellia sinensis tea plant. Instead, they are beautiful infusions crafted from a world of botanicals: flowers, fruits, spices, roots, and leaves, each with its own unique story and purpose.

Your Questions About Herbal Teas, Answered.

What is the difference between herbal and regular tea?

Regular teas (like black and green) come from the Camellia sinensis plant and naturally contain caffeine. Herbal teas, or tisanes, are infusions made from any other plant, such as chamomile, peppermint, or ginger, and are almost always caffeine-free.

Are all herbal teas caffeine-free?

The vast majority are. In the world of tea, infusions made from plants other than the Camellia sinensis tea plant are called 'tisanes' or 'herbal teas.' The main exception is Yerba Mate, a unique South American botanical that contains caffeine, which is why we've given it its own dedicated Yerba Mate Teas collection.

How long should I brew herbal teas?

Because they are generally low in the tannins that can make regular tea bitter, herbal teas are very forgiving. We recommend steeping for at least 5-7 minutes to extract the full flavor and benefits from the dense roots, fruits, and flowers.
