About Prana Balance

The cooling mint blend built for temperature shifts.

Peppermint and spearmint as the cooling base. Holy basil and lemon balm to settle the nervous system. Raspberry leaf as the grounding foundational herb. Rose petals and licorice root to soften the mint's sharp edge. Intensely refreshing in the mouth, with a cooling sensation that lingers long after the cup is empty. The tea people reach for when the internal thermostat spikes, when the mind won't quiet, or when the body needs to reset.

The herbalism tradition behind it.

Peppermint and spearmint are classified as cooling herbs in both Western herbalism and Ayurveda. The menthol in peppermint activates cold-sensitive receptors in the mouth and throat, which is why the sensation reads as physically cooling even when the tea is hot. Traditional use: hot flashes, night sweats, overheating. Holy basil, called Tulsi in Ayurveda, is one of the primary adaptogens used to calm the nervous system and support stress resilience. Lemon balm has been used in European folk medicine since the Middle Ages as a nervine, an herb that quiets mental restlessness. Raspberry leaf is a foundational herb in Western women's herbalism, traditionally used to support hormonal transitions.

Originally formulated for Moda Health.

This blend was developed in partnership with Moda Health for inclusion in their Menopause Welcome Kit. They wanted a cooling, calming tool to help members navigate temperature shifts and restless sleep during hormonal transition. The tea worked so well we made it available to everyone. Blended in our Salem, Oregon kitchen.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Sharp, clean mint. The peppermint and spearmint lead. A soft, herbaceous sweetness from the holy basil and lemon balm sits underneath.

In the cup: Intensely refreshing. The cooling mint hits first and stays dominant. The earthy spice of holy basil emerges mid-palate. The licorice root adds a faint, grounding sweetness that balances the mint's sharp bite.

Finish: Long, cool, clean. The menthol lingers in the throat, a sustained cooling effect that lasts well after the last sip.

Why You'll Love It

The cooling mechanism:Peppermint and spearmint contain menthol, which activates TRPM8 cold-sensitive receptors in the mouth and throat. The sensation reads as physically cooling even when the tea is hot. Traditional herbalism has used mint for overheating, hot flashes, and night sweats across Western, Ayurvedic, and Traditional Chinese Medicine practices.

The calming herbs:Holy Basil (Tulsi) is one of the primary adaptogens in Ayurveda, used to calm the nervous system and support stress resilience. Lemon Balm has been a nervine in European folk medicine since the Middle Ages, traditionally used to quiet mental restlessness and support restorative sleep.

The foundational herb:Raspberry Leaf is a tonic herb in Western women's herbalism, traditionally used to support hormonal transitions, menstrual cycles, and overall reproductive system health. It works quietly in the background of this blend.

A few notes from our teamakers.

Iced Cooling Cup
Brew 1.5 teaspoons in 8 ounces of full-boil water for 5 minutes. Strain. Pour over ice immediately. The menthol effect intensifies when the tea is cold. Keep a pitcher in the fridge and sip throughout the day when you feel overheated. The cooling sensation lasts longer than the drink itself.

Evening Wind-Down Ritual
Brew 1.5 teaspoons in 8 ounces of full-boil water for 7 minutes. Steep with a lid to keep the essential oils in the cup. Sip slowly 30 to 60 minutes before bed. The holy basil and lemon balm work on the nervous system to quiet mental restlessness. The mint cools the body. A folk-herbalism practice for restless sleep during hormonal transition.

Mint Steam Inhalation
Brew double-strength (2 teaspoons in 8 ounces, 5 minutes). Pour into a wide bowl. Lean over the bowl with a towel draped over your head to trap the steam. Breathe deeply for 3 to 5 minutes. The menthol vapors open the sinuses and cool the body through inhalation. A traditional practice for overheating, congestion, and respiratory discomfort.

Your Questions About Prana Balance, Answered.

How does this tea help with hot flashes?

The menthol in peppermint and spearmint activates cold-sensitive receptors in the mouth and throat, which creates a physical cooling sensation. Drinking it hot or iced, or even inhaling the steam, offers immediate comfort when your body temperature spikes. The holy basil and lemon balm calm the nervous system, which can help with the stress response that sometimes accompanies temperature shifts. This is traditional herbalism, not a medical treatment. For severe symptoms, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Does this taste like licorice?

This is a mint-forward blend. The licorice root is present in a small amount to add a natural, grounding sweetness that softens the sharp bite of the mint. You will barely notice it as licorice, but you would miss the balance if it were removed. The overall impression is cooling, bright, refreshing mint.

Can I drink this every day?

These are gentle, traditional herbs with a long history of daily use in folk herbalism. Peppermint, spearmint, lemon balm, raspberry leaf, and holy basil are all considered safe for regular consumption by most people. Licorice root in small amounts is also traditionally used daily. That said, if you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or are taking medications, consult a qualified herbalist or healthcare provider before adding any new herbal routine.
