Start your morning with the bold, robust flavor of our 100% organic black teas. Sourced from the world’s finest tea gardens and hand-blended in Oregon, our collection features everything from malty Breakfast blends to citrus-forward Earl Greys. Whether you take it straight or with milk and sugar, discover a richer, smoother cup of loose leaf tea.
What Makes Black Tea Unique?
Black tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, just like green and white tea. The difference lies in the processing: black tea leaves are fully oxidized (exposed to oxygen) before drying. This process turns the leaves dark and develops the deep, malty, and tannic flavors that black tea is famous for. Because it is fully oxidized, organic loose leaf black tea typically has the highest caffeine content of all tea types, making it the perfect choice for a morning wake-up call.
Our Signature Varieties
We offer a curated selection of black teas to suit every palate:
-
The Classics (Breakfast Blends): Our English Breakfast and Assam teas are robust, full-bodied, and designed to stand up to milk and sugar. They offer a "malty" richness that coffee lovers adore.
-
Earl Grey (The Real Deal): Unlike many brands that use synthetic flavorings, our Earl Grey is scented with real Italian Bergamot oil. This provides a bright, authentic citrus aroma that doesn't taste like perfume.
-
Dessert & Spiced: For a sweeter treat, explore our Mango Ceylon or spiced Chai blends, which pair the strength of black tea with organic fruits and whole spices.
Energy & Focus
Black tea provides a strong, steady energy boost. While it contains less caffeine than a cup of coffee (usually about half the amount), it also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes focus. This combination helps you stay alert and productive without the jittery "crash" often associated with espresso or energy drinks.
How to Brew the Perfect Black Tea
Black tea requires heat to unlock its full potential. Use water at a rolling boil (212°F). Measure one teaspoon of loose leaf per 8oz cup. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes.
Tip: If you like your tea strong, use more tea leaves rather than steeping longer, as over-steeping black tea can release bitter tannins.
The Organic Difference
Tea leaves are often unwashed before processing, meaning conventional teas can carry residues directly into your cup. At Yerba Buena Tea Co., all our black teas are Certified Organic. You can sip confidently knowing your morning ritual is free from synthetic chemicals, artificial flavors, and microplastics.
