Oregon tea, hand-blended in Salem

Yerba Buena Tea Co. is a women-owned tea company rooted in Salem, Oregon. We blend organic loose leaf tea by hand, in small batches, and bring it to farmers markets across the Pacific Northwest.

Rooted in Salem, Oregon

We started at a farmers market table and we never really left. Every blend is mixed by hand in our Salem kitchen, in batches small enough that someone here has touched every tin.

Organic leaf and herbs, honest ingredient lists, and the time to tell you what's in your cup. That's the whole idea. Read more about how we got started, or browse the full tea collection any time.

Global cup, local ground

A global cup on Oregon ground

Tea is a global story. The leaf travels from China, India, Japan, and beyond, carrying centuries of tradition in every cup. That part connects us outward, to the whole world.

The rest connects us to home. The botanicals, the place we blend, and the people we share it with are pure Oregon. We take that global tradition and make it ours, by hand, in Salem.

Why Oregon grows incredible things

At Yerba Buena Tea Co., our roots in Oregon agriculture go back generations. That heritage connects us to the land and to the people who grow high-quality herbs and botanicals, and it shapes what we look for in every blend.

It helps that Oregon is one of the great growing places in the country. The state raises more than 220 different crops. Nearly all of the nation's hazelnuts come from here. The Willamette Valley is the grass seed capital of the world, the marionberry was bred right here, and Oregon ranks among the top mint growers in the United States. Our Northwest Mint is a tip of the hat to that heritage.

We don't grow tea. Almost no one in the country does. What we do is blend it here, surrounded by some of the best agriculture in America, with an eye for quality that comes from knowing how the good stuff is grown. Browse the herbal blends to taste what that looks like.

The name

What 'Yerba Buena' means

Yerba buena is Spanish for "good herb," an old name for the wild mint that grows across the Americas. It is also the original name of the settlement that became San Francisco. Ours is a different Yerba Buena. We are in Oregon, named for the herb and the welcome it stands for: a good cup, shared.

Tea has always traveled. It connects the people who grow it, blend it, and pour it. We like carrying a little of that history in our name.

Oregon tea questions

Where is Yerba Buena Tea Co. based?

Salem, Oregon. We hand-blend every batch here in the Willamette Valley and sell at farmers markets across the Pacific Northwest.

Where can I buy your tea in Oregon?

Order online for delivery anywhere, pre-order for pickup at a market, or find us on the shelf at retail partners around the region. Our find us page has the full list.

What makes Oregon a good place for a tea company?

Oregon grows more than 220 crops and sits among the country's best farming regions, from Willamette Valley berries to Pacific Northwest mint. Blending here means we're surrounded by people who care about how things are grown, and that rubs off on how we work.

Is your tea grown in Oregon?

The tea plant doesn't grow well in Oregon's climate, so we don't claim it does. We source organic leaf and herbs from trusted growers, then blend, taste, and pack every batch by hand in Salem. The blending is the craft, and that part is all Oregon.

Do you use Oregon-grown ingredients?

Almost all tea is grown overseas, ours included. For the herbs and botanicals, quality comes first, guided by a family that has farmed Oregon for generations and knows good ingredients on sight. We'd rather let the cup speak for itself than turn sourcing into a slogan.

Do you have a tea shop in Salem?

Not a storefront. You'll find us at farmers markets, through market pickup, and online. It keeps things small and lets us spend the day talking tea instead of running a register.
