Discover the sweet, earthy goodness of 100% organic Rooibos. Native to South Africa, this "Red Bush" tea is naturally caffeine-free and rich in minerals, making it the perfect hydrating beverage for any time of day. With naturally sweet notes of vanilla and honey, our Rooibos blends are a favorite for children, expecting mothers, and anyone looking to unwind.
What is Rooibos Tea?
Rooibos (pronounced "roy-boss") is technically a tisane, not a tea. It comes from the Aspalathus linearis shrub, which grows exclusively in the Cederberg mountains of South Africa. When the leaves are oxidized, they turn a deep, mahogany red. Organic loose leaf Rooibos is beloved for its smooth, full-bodied flavor that mimics black tea but without any bitterness or astringency.
Benefits of Red Tea
Rooibos is often called a "superfood" for good reason:
-
Totally Caffeine-Free: Unlike decaf tea (which has traces of caffeine), Rooibos is naturally 100% stimulant-free. It won't disrupt your sleep cycle.
-
Rich in Antioxidants: It is packed with unique antioxidants like aspalathin, which helps fight inflammation.
-
Hydration & Minerals: Rooibos contains essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and zinc, making it an excellent hydrating option for post-workout recovery or daily wellness.
Flavor Profile & Brewing
Rooibos has a naturally sweet, nutty, and slightly woody profile with hints of vanilla. Because it is low in tannins, you cannot over-steep it.
-
Temperature: Use boiling water (212°F).
-
Time: Steep for 5 to 7 minutes (or longer!).
-
Serving Suggestion: Rooibos is incredibly versatile. It tastes delicious on its own, but also takes milk and honey beautifully. It also makes one of the best iced teas because it never gets bitter, even when left in the fridge overnight.
Organic Certification
Because Rooibos is an agricultural crop, conventional farming can involve residues. At Yerba Buena Tea Co., our Rooibos is Certified Organic, ensuring that the only thing in your cup is the pure, healing power of the plant.
