About Chai

The Real Deal

Put down the sugary concentrate. This is Chai as it was meant to be drunk. We blend robust organic black tea with whole spices, chunks of ginger, cinnamon bark, cardamom pods, and cloves. It is spicy, warming, and deeply aromatic, delivering a flavor depth that a syrup simply cannot match.

Why It Works

Authentic Chai is about the "Agni" or digestive fire. The warming spices we use are traditionally believed to wake up the metabolism and improve circulation. By using whole spices instead of powders, we preserve the essential oils, ensuring that every cup packs a punch of flavor and function.

The Stovetop Ritual

Simmer it. For the best experience, do not just pour hot water over it. Simmer 2 teaspoons of Chai in a pot with milk (or oat milk) and honey for 10 minutes. This slow heat extracts the full power of the spices, creating a creamy, golden elixir that warms you from the inside out.

Organic Ingredients
  • Organic Black Tea
  • Organic Ginger Root
  • Organic Cardamom
  • Organic Cinnamon Bark
  • Organic Nutmeg
  • Organic Cloves
  • Organic Star Anise
Tasting Notes

Aroma: An intoxicating cloud of warm cinnamon, spicy ginger, and creamy cardamom.

Flavor: Bold and spicy. The heat of the ginger hits first, followed by the sweetness of cinnamon and the malt of the black tea.

Finish: A lingering, tingling warmth from the cloves and star anise.

Why You'll Love It

Whole Spice, No Sugar: Most coffee shop chais are 50% sugar. Ours is 100% organic tea and spices. You control the sweetness, meaning you get the anti-inflammatory benefits of ginger and turmeric without the sugar crash.

The Heart of Hospitality: In India, offering a cup of chai is a universal gesture of welcome. Brewing a pot for a friend is a simple, powerful way to say "stay a while."

Your Questions About Chai, Answered.

Is this chai spicy?

Yes, it has a traditional kick. We use fresh ginger root and whole cloves for warmth, balanced by sweet cinnamon bark. It is bold and authentic—much richer than a standard tea bag, but not overwhelmingly hot.

Is this pre-sweetened?

No. Unlike sugary concentrates or powders, our Chai is a blend of 100% organic tea and whole spices. You control the sweetness with honey or maple syrup, making it a much healthier daily ritual than the coffee shop version.

How do I make a chai latte?

For the best flavor, use the stovetop method. Simmer equal parts water and milk (or oat milk) with the tea for 10 minutes. This slow heat extracts the full spice profile and creates a creamy, rich texture.

FAQs Simply Answered

Are your teas organic?

The Short Answer: Yes. Every single leaf, root, and flower we source is Certified USDA Organic.

The Details: We believe that flavor starts in the soil. We strictly partner with growers who practice sustainable, organic farming, organic approved pesticides, no GMOs, and no "natural flavorings" sprayed on the leaves. While our Salem facility is a dedicated small-batch kitchen (and not yet a certified processing plant), our commitment to 100% organic ingredients is absolute. You are drinking pure nature, nothing else.

What are the "Refill Bags"?

We designed our system to be sustainable.

Our Signature Tin, protects the tea and contains all the detailed brewing and ingredient information.

The Refill:
When you run low, you buy a Refill Bag.

Please Note: These biodegradable bags are designed as "Transport Vessels" only. They are not intended for individual sale. Upon arrival, please use the refill bag with into your YBTCO Tin. This ensures your tea stays fresh and you have the correct brewing instructions at hand.

Where is this made?

Handcrafted in Oregon.

Every batch of Yerba Buena tea is blended, tested, and packed in our dedicated tea kitchen in Salem, Oregon. We do not use co-packers or giant industrial machines. We blend in small lots to ensure that the oils are still volatile and the spices are still punchy when they reach your cup. It is a difference you can taste.

Is it safe for allergies (Gluten/Nuts)?

We keep it clean. All YBTCO teas are naturally Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, and Vegan. Our facility does not process wheat, soy, peanuts, or dairy.

The Coconut Note: The only allergen present in our facility is Coconut (Tree Nut), which is used in specific blends like Maven Blend and Turmeric Spice. We adhere to strict cleaning protocols to prevent cross-contamination, but if you have a severe tree nut allergy, please shop with caution.

When will my order ship?

We know you are ready to brew. Because we hand-pack orders, they typically leave our Oregon kitchen within 2-3 business days.

  • Free Shipping: We cover the shipping on all US orders over $70.
