About Turmeric Spice

The golden milk blend that makes turmeric drinkable.

Turmeric root, South African honeybush (a sweeter cousin of rooibos), coconut flakes, orange peel, cinnamon bark, cardamom, ginger root, and nutmeg. The earthy bitterness of raw turmeric gets softened by the natural sweetness of honeybush and rounded by coconut fat. The chai spices bridge the two. The cup drinks warm, creamy, golden. Built to be a latte, but it holds up straight.

Why the coconut matters.

Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric that gives the root its golden color and its reputation in herbalism, is fat-soluble. That means it needs fat to move through the digestive tract and into the bloodstream. The coconut flakes in this blend provide that fat, which is why traditional golden milk recipes in Indian and Ayurvedic wellness practices always include milk or ghee. The fat also tames the bitterness and turns the cup creamy.

The honeybush base.

Honeybush grows in the same coastal fynbos regions of South Africa as rooibos, but it reads sweeter and rounder in the cup. The plant gets its name from the honey-scented flowers it produces during bloom season. In the dried leaf, that sweetness comes through as a soft, maple-like undertone that holds the spices together without needing added sugar. Naturally caffeine-free, like rooibos.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Warm and layered. Cinnamon and cardamom lead, with a coconut-vanilla sweetness underneath and a faint earthy note from the turmeric.

Flavor: Golden and creamy. The honeybush base reads as honey-maple sweet. The turmeric sits as an earthy undertone, softened by coconut. The chai spices warm the finish without overwhelming.

With milk: Turns into a dessert latte. The coconut fat and the oat milk fat amplify each other. The turmeric stains the milk a soft golden yellow. Add honey and it tastes like liquid cake batter.

Craft Your Cup

  • Golden Oats: Instead of brewing it as tea, steep these loose herbs in the milk you use to make your morning oatmeal. It makes a savory-sweet, golden breakfast bowl.
  • Turmeric Broth: Add a tablespoon of this tea to chicken or vegetable soup while it simmers. The spices add incredible depth and color to the broth.

Your Questions About Turmeric Spice, Answered.

Does this taste like curry?

The cup reads as sweet spice, not savory spice. While turmeric, ginger, and cardamom are curry staples, the honeybush base and the coconut-orange pairing push the flavor profile toward dessert. It tastes closer to a spiced latte than a dinner dish.

Will turmeric stain my cup?

Yes. Turmeric root contains curcumin, a potent natural dye that stains plastic, porous ceramic, and silicone a bright golden yellow. Use glass, stainless steel, or enamel mugs. Wipe spills immediately. The staining is not harmful, just permanent.

What is golden milk?

The Short Answer: Yes. Every single leaf, root, and flower we source is Certified USDA Organic.

The Details: We believe that flavor starts in the soil. We strictly partner with growers who practice sustainable, organic farming, organic approved pesticides, no GMOs, and no "natural flavorings" sprayed on the leaves. While our Salem facility is a dedicated small-batch kitchen (and not yet a certified processing plant), our commitment to 100% organic ingredients is absolute. You are drinking pure nature, nothing else.

What are the "Refill Bags"?

We designed our system to be sustainable.

Our Signature Tin, protects the tea and contains all the detailed brewing and ingredient information.

The Refill:
When you run low, you buy a Refill Bag.

Please Note: These biodegradable bags are designed as "Transport Vessels" only. They are not intended for individual sale. Upon arrival, please use the refill bag with into your YBTCO Tin. This ensures your tea stays fresh and you have the correct brewing instructions at hand.

Where is this made?

Handcrafted in Oregon.

Every batch of Yerba Buena tea is blended, tested, and packed in our dedicated tea kitchen in Salem, Oregon. We do not use co-packers or giant industrial machines. We blend in small lots to ensure that the oils are still volatile and the spices are still punchy when they reach your cup. It is a difference you can taste.

Is it safe for allergies (Gluten/Nuts)?

We keep it clean. All YBTCO teas are naturally Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, and Vegan. Our facility does not process wheat, soy, peanuts, or dairy.

The Coconut Note: The only allergen present in our facility is Coconut (Tree Nut), which is used in specific blends like Maven Blend and Turmeric Spice. We adhere to strict cleaning protocols to prevent cross-contamination, but if you have a severe tree nut allergy, please shop with caution.

When will my order ship?

We know you are ready to brew. Because we hand-pack orders, they typically leave our Oregon kitchen within 2-3 business days.
